90 Day LDR Challenge: Day 14
Day 14: What was your first kiss like? If you havenโt kissed yet, what do you think/hope it will be like?
Cat: It was everything I had hoped it would be and more.ย ๐
Richard: It was really nice haha. We were sat in Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester at night, and I remember lots of football (US friends, read: soccer) fans going past. So, that was a bit surreal, as well as the fact that we had been speaking for a good few months with Cat all those thousands of miles away, and all of a sudden we were together. I remember walking Cat back to her hotel where we kissed again, and then some guy driving past said โGet a room!โ Haha! Unfortunately, Cat was staying with her mum at that point so that wasnโt an option ๐
90 Day LDR Challenge: Day 12
Day 12: How did you tell your family and friends about your relationship? Were they supportive? What about your partner?
Cat:ย The night before I met Richard for the first time, I remember telling my mom about him. I was really nervous because my mom is a traditional woman, and I was waiting for her judgment to rain on me about online dating, etc. But she was surprisingly really cool about it! She really had my back the night that Richard and I went out. In retrospect, I’m glad my mom was there when I met Richard.
Throughout our relationship, Richard has made such a great impression on the rest of my family and friends, and all of my friends are actually happy that we’re going so strong. And while a couple of my aunts had silly comments to make about our LDR, I took it all with a grain of salt. One of them has become bitter about love since forever, and the other has been with the same man since high school, never having to deal with distance or any other kind of obstacles. Sometimes, understanding where the negativity comes from is 80% of the battle.
Richard:ย My mum and I are really close so I did tell her that we were going on a date. I told her how lovely Cat was and she was really happy when I told her that we were in a relationship. They actually met relatively early on, my Mum and I had booked tickets for a band that we like (she’s cool, what can I say), and we all went to a latin american restaurant and they really hit it off. My Grandma really liked the sound of Cat, and I was so glad when they met for the first time at Christmas when she was visiting in London for my graduation. And yes, they hit it off as well!
My best friend Ste was really happy for me when I told him about Cat, and everyone loved Cat whenever we went to parties together. So yes, nothing but good things. ๐

Your Love from Afar: Week 5
Monday- Do you both play any games together?
What games do you play? Who usually wins? Do you place any bets or rewards?
We do! Richard and I love playing games on the Wii and the 3DS. A few months before I left, I became obsessed with playing Mario 3D World and Mario 3D Land. I love playing Mario Kart 8 too. Basically, anything Mario, I will play it, and Richard will join in. Richard is way more of a gamer than I am though. He loves his new PS4, and he likes playing what I call his scary games on it. I definitely do not do scary well so that’s his time or time with his boys. Outside of game consoles, we love to play Scrabble, haha!
Hands down, Richard usually wins. He’s been a gamer all his life, and I love that about him. His hand-eye coordination is insane, and he’s so intuitive with all sorts of games. Although it means that I lose a good amount of the time, I can’t hate. I can’t! The way I see it, at the end of the day, if we get to spend time together, Iโm happy. ๐ (Cheesy, I know. Please still be my friend.)
We’ve never placed any serious bets and rewards to games… Thank God! I would be broke if we did, haha!
Your Love from Afar: Week 4
(Trying to do some major catch up here…)
Friday- What are your favorite things to talk about? Do you talk on a regular basis?
We talk everyday. ๐ Our favorite things to talk about are how our days were and how we envision our future. Richard wakes up before me because of the five-hour time difference, and he usually texts me before he goes to work. His morning texts really start my day off on the right note! We always say good night to each other as well, even though it is totally not good night for me, haha. But from the moment we first talked to each other, we have always said good night to each other. It’s one of our golden rules. ๐
Your Love from Afar Challenge: Week 2
Wednesday- What role does music play in your relationship? Do you feel like it brings you together? What are some things you both do together that involve music?
At the beginning of our relationship, we used music to share feelings we were a bit too scared to voice ourselves. One time, we spent the whole night playing music to each other. We each took turns choosing songs that expressed how we felt about each other. When Richard played me Travis’ “Flowers in the Window,” I knew we were something special.
As our relationship grew, listening to music became something we both liked to do when we were hanging out after dinner or doing chores around our flat/apartment. Music has definitely played a part in bringing us together, especially when we reminisce about our time together. We often listen to a song on our way to work or on our drives here and there, and it brings back a beautiful memory and of course, we have to text each other! Music is something that we really treasure. ๐
